Impact: Social Media on the World

Blog Post #1

Social media is a largely used means of communication, entertainment, and much more. Apps like Facebook, twitter, and Instagram have all made their way onto the phones of millions across the world. These sites have helped to alter the way people talk to each other and share personal information with people from anywhere possible.

Through video chat, picture sharing, and instant messaging, social media is able to shatter the natural borders of communication with its world-changing abilities that so many people have incorporated into the workplace, schools, hospitals; just about anywhere imaginable.

Social media also reaches to not only those wishing to “Skype” their friends, but also to those who would like to watch live videos, streams, movies, and television through a simple app. These new features make entertainment accessible like never before, and only at the push of a button or tap of a finger. Did you watch a movie you really liked? Why not share it with your circle of friends on Google Plus? Perhaps you’d like to show your YouTube subscribers the game you’re playing, so you stream to thousands of people on Twitch.

Today’s technology has allowed for a more fluid means of interaction in which people have never been more social or open with their lives. People send all sorts of pictures to each other on Snap-chat while others prefer just direct message on an app like Kik. The options are limitless, and are still expanding as the years go on. Every day social media is integrated further into daily life, and is doing so at a rapid pace.
